How To: Spring Clean Your Space

The main idea of spring cleaning is to approach it as a positive thing. Think of it as you cleansing yourself of all the negative energies that you’ve filled your space with. By cleaning all the dust and germs and getting rid of everything you don’t need or want, you are getting rid of all the mistakes you made and all the negative emotions you had felt. But how do you approach the cleaning aspect? Follow these tips.

Think of a great day to get started. I’m usually a spur-of-the-moment girl, so I don’t really schedule a day to clean. It just happens. Next, you are going to want to relax and go with the flow. Then, build up the motivation to get moving. I usually put on music the entire time. You are going to want to get organized. If you are going to rearrange furniture, think it out or map out where you will put everything, write down everything you’ll need to do, etc.

After you are prepared, it’s time to get started. Make sure you have trash bags with you so you can clean up trash as you go along.

Start by cleaning all the surfaces. Remove your belongings and disinfect them. Do you know how many organisms live on the surfaces in your room? I prefer to use Lysol wipes because they smell good and get the job done, but use what you feel most comfortable with or like. After you are done disinfecting the area, put everything back on the surfaces. I usually rearrange everything for something new.

Get rid of old clothing. I know what it’s like to have that favorite shirt or pair of jeans that I just don’t want to let go, but it’s time to. You need that space for the clothes that will be coming your way in the next year, so pack up your winter clothes and toss out the stuff that doesn’t fit. This includes stuff you don’t like, also.

Organize the inside of your furniture: the drawers in your dressers and maybe the drawer in your bedside table. Also, I find it fun to organize my books in alphabetical order. This is a good time to get rid of stuff you don’t want, need, or use. You’d be surprised at what you’ll find that you didn’t know you had.

Take time to clean out your closet and clean up around everything. Find new places or ways to present your accessories, shoes, and the clothes that you hang up. After you do your closet, make sure to clean under your bed, if there is space.

Now you should wipe down the ceiling fan, windows, and sweep out ceiling corners. Over time cobwebs are made, dirt and dust are floating, and did you know that every thirty minutes your body gives off dead skin cells that float around in the air? Yes, that’s gross. I agree. So make sure you don’t just clean them once a year.

As a last tip, I should tell you that everyone knows that their beds need to be made but going back to the beginning of this article, I’ll give you the advice of, as you are cleaning your space, make sure you are doing laundry. Wash your clothes and your bed set. Therefore by the time you are done, you can make your bed, sweep, and mop.

Hope I helped you get organized and clean your space. Have fun cleaning and have a great spring!
